Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for a successful operation that led to the arrest of five high-profile kidnappers hiding in forests across the state.

The arrests took place on Wednesday, March 12, after DSS operatives tracked the suspects to two separate hideouts in Enugu State based on credible intelligence. The individuals apprehended are believed to be part of a notorious kidnapping gang responsible for terrorizing Udi Local Government Area and other regions of the state.

The suspects allegedly confessed to extorting large ransoms from the families of their victims. During the operation, security forces also seized significant amounts of money, suspected to be ransom proceeds, as well as lethal weapons and other dangerous items from the kidnappers’ hideouts.

In a statement, Governor Mbah expressed his satisfaction with the DSS’s efforts and the cooperation between various security agencies, including the military, police, and Enugu State Forest Guards. He assured the public that operations would continue to track down remaining gang members and dismantle their operations in the forests.

Furthermore, on Friday, March 14, three other key members of a separate kidnapping syndicate were arrested in Enugu, further strengthening the state’s ongoing fight against criminal activities.
