The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a warning about potential terrorist attacks targeting places of worship and recreational centers during the upcoming Sallah festivities. According to reports received by the DSS, there are plans by terrorists to carry out these attacks.

In a statement released on June 22, 2023, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, highlighted the recovery of primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from suspected terrorists during a joint operation with other security agencies. This discovery further supports the credibility of the reports.

Afunanya urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the relevant security agencies, particularly operators of public places such as markets and malls. The DSS emphasized the need for heightened vigilance in anticipation of the Eid celebrations.

The statement also mentioned successful raids conducted by the DSS, Nigerian Army, and Nigeria Police Force in Kogi and Nasarawa states. These operations resulted in the elimination of a wanted gang leader known as Kabir Bala, who was killed in a gun battle in Kogi. Various weapons and items, including firearms, ammunition, phones, and charms, were recovered during these operations.

The DSS reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with sister agencies to proactively counter criminal activities through strategic drills.
