Edwin Clark Passes Away at 97

Former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South Leader, Edwin Clark, has passed away.

A statement from his family confirmed that the chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) died on Monday night, February 17, 2025, at the age of 97.

The statement read:

“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, announces the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON, on Monday, 17th February 2025. The family appreciates your prayers during this difficult time. Further details will be shared later.”

Born in Kiagbodo, Delta State, Clark was educated at schools in Effurun, Okrika, and Afugbene before attending the Government Teacher Training College, which later became Delta State University, Abraka. He briefly worked as a teacher before pursuing a law degree abroad.

Clark was involved in Nigerian governance from 1966 to 1975, working with military governor Samuel Ogbemudia and General Yakubu Gowon’s administration. He was a member of an advisory committee for the military governor of the Mid-Western Region, David Ejoor, and later served as Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975.
