Emir of Zuru Passes Away in London

Mohammed Sani Sami, the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, has passed away at the age of 81.

He died on Saturday, August 16, in a hospital in London following a brief illness, according to a statement released Sunday by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government.

The statement, quoting Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, noted that details regarding the burial arrangements would be announced in due course.

“The Kebbi Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the late Emir’s immediate family, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and all residents of Kebbi State,” the statement read, also praying for forgiveness of the Emir’s shortcomings and for him to be granted Jannatul Firdaus.

Born in 1943, Mohammed Sani Sami had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, enlisting on December 10, 1962, and commissioning as an officer on July 25, 1963. He served as the military governor of Bauchi State from January 1984 to August 1985 during the late Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

He became Emir of Zuru in 1995, a role he faithfully served until his passing.
