A fuel-laden tanker exploded at the A.A Rano filling station in Hannun Riga, Kontagora, the headquarters of Kontagora Local Government Area in Niger State.
The filling station is situated just a few meters from the ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police in Kontagora. According to sources, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, while Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, was being offloaded from the tanker.
Eyewitnesses told Daily Trust that the fire started during the offloading process, with several other fuel storage tanks still full, heightening concerns of a possible escalation. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though many people, including passersby, fled the scene in panic.
“Fire Service personnel are working tirelessly to control the blaze, but the situation remains tense as the fire continues to spread,” said Abba Mohammed, one of the witnesses.
