The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued an official statement clarifying the events surrounding an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, involving Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, and pilots from domestic airline ValueJet.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had earlier announced the suspension of two ValueJet pilots over what it described as a serious breach of aviation safety protocols. According to NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the authority was notified of the violation by the airline. A 23-second video shared on NCAA’s official X (formerly Twitter) page showed a CRJ-900ER aircraft (registration 5N-BXS) taxiing at high speed while ground staff remained in close proximity—signaling it had not yet been cleared for departure.

FAAN’s preliminary investigation confirmed that the passenger in question, K1 De Ultimate, was scheduled to board ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos.

During the boarding process, the musician allegedly attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance onboard, ignoring repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain. In line with international aviation security protocols—specifically Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17—liquids exceeding 100ml are not permitted through security screening unless medically necessary and properly declared.

FAAN stated that the passenger was informed of this regulation but declined to comply. When an airline security officer asked him to step aside for further clarification, he reportedly refused and poured the contents of his flask—later identified as alcohol—on the officer.

The flight captain attempted to intervene but faced similar resistance. After boarding was completed, she instructed that the aircraft doors be closed. However, the passenger moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, despite multiple requests.

Ultimately, AVSEC’s crime unit escorted the passenger away for further investigation. He was later released.

FAAN emphasized its firm commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport staff, stating:

“The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved.”

The incident remains under investigation, and FAAN has assured the public that all individuals found responsible will face appropriate legal consequences.
