A Nigerian man, Ishaku Joseph, has dragged his daughter’s boyfriend, Yunana Zock, before a Customary Court in Kaduna State over the alleged misappropriation of his late wife’s death benefits.

According to the police prosecutor, ASP Jeremiah Amfani, the incident occurred after ₦13 million in death benefits was paid into the account of Joseph’s daughter, Emmanuella, in 2023. She was listed as the next of kin to her late mother. The prosecutor stated that Zock allegedly deceived Emmanuella and unlawfully withdrew the funds, prompting Joseph to report the matter to the police.

During cross-examination, Emmanuella testified that Zock took her ATM card without her knowledge and withdrew the money.

In his defence, Zock admitted transferring ₦11.9 million to Emmanuella’s account, claiming that she had agreed to give him ₦2 million to start a business. He also told the court that they had shared each other’s ATM PINs during their time together in Abuja. He submitted his Opay account statement as evidence and said he would call one witness in his defence.

Presiding Judge, Ms Patience Musa, adjourned the case to September 30 for continuation of the defence.
