A police officer lost his life in an attack by unidentified gunmen on a patrol team in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Joshua Ukandu, the State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, revealing that the attack occurred in the crisis-prone Ngbo-Effium axis of the LGA on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
Ukandu disclosed that armed hoodlums targeted the patrol team, using an ash-colored Toyota Sienna with an unknown registration number. In the ensuing confrontation, one officer was fatally wounded, and another sustained injuries, currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.
The statement mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, CP Augustina Ogbodo, promptly dispatched tactical teams to the scene. The police are actively pursuing the fleeing hoodlums, and calm has been restored to the affected area.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) emphasized the commissioner’s appeal to citizens for any valuable information that could aid in apprehending the assailants. CP Ogbodo reiterated the police command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
