President Bola Tinubu has instructed the immediate settlement of the outstanding electricity bill owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

The directive comes after the State House Management reconciled accounts with the AEDC. According to a statement released by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, contrary to initial claims by the AEDC of a N923 million debt, the actual outstanding bill for the State House is N342,352,217.46, as confirmed in a letter from the AEDC management to the State House Permanent Secretary dated February 14, 2024.

With the reconciliation completed to the satisfaction of both parties, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has assured that the debt will be settled before the end of the week.

Following this example set by the Presidency, the Chief of Staff also urged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to reconcile their accounts with the AEDC and settle their electricity bills.
