Gunmen have killed two Chinese nationals and a police officer in Abia State.

Two Chinese nationals and a police officer were killed in an ambush by gunmen on Friday evening, April 5, in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State.

The victims, identified as Manager Mr. Quan, his colleague Mr. Cai, and Inspector Audu Saidu, an escort officer, were attacked while en route to a company site at Agukwu-Amaya in Ndundu community. The assailants also made off with Inspector Saidu’s rifle.

Maureen Chinaka, the police spokesperson, confirmed the attack and stated that a distress call was immediately received, triggering a swift response from the police, military, and other security agencies. “Following the alert, operatives from the Abia State Command, in collaboration with the military and other agencies, launched a search operation. As a result, three Chinese expatriates were rescued unharmed, though one suffered injuries. Inspector Uba Ahmed, who was also rescued, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg,” she explained.

Both the injured expatriate and the police officer were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) for treatment.

On Saturday, a tactical team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), visited the crime scene. Chinaka further stated, “Through joint efforts between the police, military, and local community members, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday was also rescued unharmed.”

An investigation is currently underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the attackers. Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa has assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
