Joe Igbokwe Warns Sowore to Stay Away from South East Issues

APC leader Joe Igbokwe has strongly opposed plans by activist Omoyele Sowore to lead an October 20 protest in Abuja demanding the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently incarcerated.

In a post on his Instagram page, Igbokwe condemned Kanu’s leadership of the Biafra movement, describing it as “a totally useless and senseless project” that has caused significant destruction across the South East region. He warned that it would take years for the area to recover from the damage attributed to Kanu’s IPOB activities.

Igbokwe’s statement reads in part:

“FINAL WARNING TO OMOYELE SOWORE!!!

Omoyele Sowore says he plans to march to Aso Rock to protest the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, whom I call the ‘Butcher of the South East.’ As a friend, I have advised Sowore repeatedly—three times, in fact—to stay away from this matter. I have even contacted his brother, Barr Allen Sowore, to urge him to counsel Omoyele to avoid involvement. But he refuses to listen.

Nnamdi Kanu’s actions over the past decade have led to thousands of deaths in the South East. His followers turned the region into a killing field, creating chaos and lawlessness. The South East became a place where life was ‘nasty, brutish, and short.’ Kanu’s leadership has devastated the region, and his project has set the Igbo nation back by 50 years.

We lost respect, honor, integrity, and common sense. While many remained silent, reckless individuals under Kanu’s influence dragged the land of the rising sun into turmoil that will take years to clean up.

Sowore, you know nothing about what happened in the South East. Blood was shed, and I am a victim of that violence. Before you engage in this matter, visit Nnewi, speak to the people, and do your due diligence. This mission you intend to join leads nowhere.

To those from the Southwest, South-South, North-Central, North-East, and North-West, I say ignore Kanu and Sowore’s reckless agitation. This so-called ‘Aluta continua’ struggle is outdated, childish, and senseless.”
