Officials from the Kwara State Ministry of Environment have sealed a cold room in Ilorin, the state capital, after discovering that spoiled fish were being sold there to unsuspecting residents.
According to reports, environmental officers intercepted a batch of spoiled fish and subsequently traced its source to the cold room, which was then shut down. The Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, confirmed both the confiscation of the contaminated fish and the closure of the facility.
“It is unacceptable for any business dealing in consumable goods to sell spoiled products. Our officials have acted appropriately by stopping further sales, seizing the items, and sealing the premises,” the commissioner stated.
Buge also cautioned business owners against selling unwholesome food items, describing the act as inhumane, illegal, and immoral.
