Kwara State Fire Service Retrieves Body of Man from River

Kwara State Fire Service has recovered the body of an unidentified man from a river along the Osin/Laduba axis of Ilorin.

The incident was reported on Thursday, February 12, 2026, by officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment.

In a statement confirming the development, the Service’s spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving the distress call.

According to him, the agency received the report at about 2:42 p.m. that a lifeless body had been discovered in a river in the Osin/Laduba area of Ilorin West Local Government Area. Firefighters responded promptly and successfully retrieved the body of the male victim, believed to be about 43 years old.

The remains were subsequently handed over to officials of the Ministry of Environment for further necessary procedures, while health workers fumigated the body and surrounding area to safeguard public health and environmental safety.

The Director of the Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to refrain from unsafe activities around water bodies and to report emergencies or suspicious incidents to the appropriate authorities for swift intervention. He also stressed the importance of collaboration among agencies in protecting lives and maintaining public safety.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to preserving lives and supporting partner organisations in emergency response operations across the state.
