The Ebonyi Police Command, on October 19, expressed its commitment to apprehending the culprits behind the tragic murders of a school principal and a teacher.

Simon Ominyi, the Principal of Nkaleke Echara Secondary School, Ojiegbe, and his teacher, Moses Nwibo, were fatally attacked by unknown gunmen at the school on October 13, 2023. ASP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed that investigations into the incident were already in progress.

“We are fully aware of the incident, and the police are actively working to uncover the motives behind these killings and bring those responsible to justice,” stated the PPRO.

Francis Okorie, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, strongly condemned the heinous act against his members, describing it as “shocking and wicked” and a disgrace to society. He remarked, “It is highly disheartening to see individuals harm teachers, who are dedicated to their duty with just chalk and pen.”

“We unequivocally condemn this act. The tools we use are meant for correcting students,” he added, noting that the union had not yet determined the reason behind the killings.

Chidi Igboji, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, also expressed outrage, deeming it a “shameful act” to harm teachers in such a manner.

“Yes, they were brutally killed while on duty at Nkaleke. This is deeply troubling,” he said. He called upon the State Government and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the perpetrators face the consequences of their actions.
