A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Kabokweni, near White River in Mpumalanga, South Africa, in connection with the alleged murder of his older sister, whose body he reportedly buried in a shallow grave at his home nearly a year ago.
Police say the suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 3, after allegedly confessing to killing his 44-year-old sister during a violent altercation on May 29, 2024. According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the man claimed a heated argument with his sister escalated into physical violence, ultimately resulting in her death.
“He allegedly fatally assaulted her and buried the body in a shallow grave in the yard,” Mdhluli said. “It is further alleged that the suspect kept the incident to himself and only recently revealed the details to others, which led to police being alerted.”
Authorities have not yet exhumed the body. Mdhluli confirmed that police forensic services and the K9 unit have been notified and are preparing to carry out the necessary procedures.
The investigation remains ongoing. The suspect is expected to appear in court once formal charges are filed.
