A man was publicly executed in southern Iran on Tuesday, August 19, after being convicted of killing four members of a family, according to state media.

“One of the individuals responsible for the brutal killing of four members of a family in Beyram, Fars province, was executed in public on Tuesday,” reported Mizan, the official news outlet of Iran’s judiciary.

Under Iranian law, crimes such as murder and sexual assault are punishable by death. Iran remains one of the countries with the highest number of executions, second only to China, according to organizations like Amnesty International.

The man and his wife were accused of killing a mother and her three children during a robbery that took place in October 2024, Mizan stated.

Both were sentenced to death in February 2025, and the sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court in April.

The report added that the woman’s execution is scheduled to take place in prison, though no specific date has been announced.
