My father didn’t back my music career — Singer Asake

Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, has revealed that his father strongly opposed his decision to pursue a career in music.

The singer made the disclosure during a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, noting that the disagreement created a strain in their relationship.

Despite his father’s objections, Asake said he chose to follow his passion. He explained that although they were once very close, things changed when he decided to leave home to chase his music ambitions.

“My dad and I were so close when I was younger. But it got to a time when I wanted to leave home to do what I’m doing now, but my father said ‘No.’ I left regardless,” he said.

The Sungba crooner’s comments come months after his father, Fatai Odunsi, made headlines in March 2025 by accusing him of neglect and abandonment.

The claims sparked backlash from Nigerians at the time, after which the singer and his father eventually reconciled.
