The Bida Local Government Council in Niger State has shut down several ice cream production facilities over poor hygiene and non-compliance with regulatory standards.

The council said an inspection of the facilities uncovered flies in ice cream mixtures, unlabelled products, and a lack of operating licences and registration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

It added that laboratory tests reportedly found the products to have no nutritional value and contain substances considered harmful to human health.

According to the council, production at the affected facilities has been suspended, while businesses found violating food safety regulations have been warned to expect appropriate sanctions.

The council also urged residents to report suspected unsafe food production activities to the relevant authorities.
