Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, emphasized the critical importance of fair compensation for judges during a hearing convened by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters. Represented by Chief Judge Kashim Zannah of Borno, Ariwoola underscored that neglecting judges’ pay ultimately impacts Nigerians. He likened the current state of judges’ remuneration to a patient in intensive care, stressing that adequate compensation serves the nation’s best interests. Ariwoola urged swift action to address the issue, highlighting the stagnant salaries since 2007 despite inflation. He urged senators to prioritize moving judges out of financial “ICU” and into a stable position, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
