The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims that Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” was denied her Certificate of National Service due to her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement released on Sunday, the NYSC described the allegation as false and baseless, emphasizing that the delay in issuing her certificate is purely procedural.

Raye, who bears the service code LA/24B/8325, gained attention earlier this year after a TikTok video in which she described Lagos as “smelling” and criticized the Tinubu government. The video sparked significant backlash, leading her to issue a public apology.

Her situation drew public sympathy from notable figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and activist Omoyele Sowore, who suggested that the delay in her certification was politically motivated.

The NYSC, however, reiterated that politics played no role in the delay, maintaining that the matter is being handled according to standard procedures.
