Former U.S. President Barack Obama has said he believes global governance could improve if women were given the opportunity to lead governments around the world for two years.
Obama made the remark while discussing the importance of creating opportunities for younger generations and new voices to play a greater role in shaping society.
Reflecting on his time in office, the former president said he had sometimes imagined what the world might look like if women were placed in charge of governments globally for a two-year period.
“Even when I was President, I sometimes fantasized about if you put women in charge of every government for like two years, and then just kind of saw, ‘All right, how are things going?’” Obama said.
He acknowledged that such an arrangement would not produce a perfect world but said he believed it could lead to improvements in governance.
“I have a strong belief that things wouldn’t be perfect, but they’d be better. I’m confident about that. I really do,” he added.
