On Tuesday, August 5, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, decorated Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aliyu Shaba and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sentome Obi—recipients of the Police Officer of the Year Award for 2023 and 2024, respectively—with their new ranks.

The decoration ceremony was held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the elevation and recognition of these officers underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to acknowledging and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional service and dedication to the nation.

During the ceremony, the IGP reiterated the Force Management’s policy that any officer who wins the Police Officer of the Year Award, receives the IGP Commendation Award, or secures a category award for two consecutive years will be recommended to the Police Service Commission for accelerated promotion. He emphasized that the path to honour and recognition within the Force is open to all personnel but must be earned through diligence, professionalism, excellence, and disciplined service.

In a related development, the IGP also received a delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), led by its Director-General, Ms. Omolola B. Oluworaran, alongside the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr. Kolade Morakinyo. The high-level meeting took place at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The visit included a comprehensive interactive session with senior police officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above, focusing on pressing concerns regarding retirement benefits and welfare of both serving and retired personnel.
