Governor Seyi Makinde has suspended Oba Gbolagade Babalola (Gbadewolu I), the traditional ruler of Ido town in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo state, following allegations of his association with illegal miners. The decision was announced by Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, on Friday, February 2. The suspension is based on an intelligence report linking the Onido of Ido to illicit mining activities in the local government area. Oyelade emphasized that the state government took this stern action to send a clear message to those supporting criminals within their jurisdiction that such actions will not be tolerated. Regarding the possibility of the Onido being dethroned after the investigation, the commissioner stated, “All options are on the table.”
