The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four top national officers for alleged anti-party activities.
The decision was announced in an official statement issued after an emergency NWC meeting held in Abuja on Saturday, November 1.
Those affected include:
-
Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary
-
Hon. Umar Bature, National Organising Secretary
-
Kamal Deen Ajibade (SAN), National Legal Adviser
-
Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, Deputy National Legal Adviser
According to the statement, the suspensions will last one month, pending the outcome of investigations by the party’s National Disciplinary Committee. During this period, the suspended officers are prohibited from performing their official duties.
Speaking after the meeting, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said the action followed a review of the conduct of certain members in recent months.
“The NWC has reviewed the party’s activities, especially in the recent past, and some decisions were taken,” Ologunagba said. “You will recall that on August 8, 2025, the party issued a reprimand to members over anti-party activities. Since then, the NWC has reviewed the activities of some members working against the party and reached the following decisions today.”
He explained that the affected officials were found to have violated sections of the PDP Constitution that prohibit actions capable of bringing the party into disrepute, hatred, or contempt.
“Any member who breaches the constitution or manifesto, disobeys lawful directives, or engages in conduct likely to cause disaffection among members is liable to disciplinary action,” Ologunagba added.
The NWC also approved interim replacements to ensure continuity in party operations.
“In the case of the National Secretary, pursuant to Section 36(2) of the constitution (as amended in 2017), the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arch. Setonji Koshedo, shall act as National Secretary,” Ologunagba announced. “For the offices of the Legal Adviser and Deputy Legal Adviser, the Director of Legal Services has been directed to oversee the department during the suspension period.”
The National Legal Adviser and Deputy National Legal Adviser have been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee, while the National Organising Secretary and National Secretary will also face internal inquiries in line with the party’s constitution.
