The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected traffic robbers along the Lekki–Epe Expressway over the past two weeks, following rising complaints from motorists about thefts during traffic congestion.
The suspects were apprehended at various points along the busy corridor by operatives of the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement released on Tuesday. “Fourteen suspected traffic robbers have been arrested by the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, within the last two weeks at different locations along the Lekki–Epe Expressway,” she stated.
Adebisi described the arrests as a clear demonstration of the Command’s commitment to improving security and protecting road users in the area. She urged residents and motorists to remain vigilant, adding, “See something, say something.”
The crackdown follows growing public concern over traffic-related robberies along the Lekki corridor, particularly thefts of vehicle parts while cars are caught in congestion.
Recently, tech influencer Fisayo Fosudo raised the alarm on social media after revealing that his vehicle had been attacked multiple times in traffic. In one instance, he said his windshield cover was removed while stuck on the expressway. His post drew widespread responses from other motorists who shared similar experiences. One social media user noted that certain vehicles, especially Lexus RX 350 models from 2017 to 2022, are frequently targeted at night.
According to reports, the criminals often disguise themselves as beggars or hawkers while stealing side mirrors and other detachable car parts, which are reportedly in high demand.
The police assured the public that surveillance and patrols along the Lekki–Epe Expressway will continue to curb traffic-related crimes and restore confidence among road users.
