The police in Lagos State have apprehended two members of an armed robbery gang notorious for using pepper spray to rob commercial motorcyclists.

The suspects were caught in the act when they attacked a motorcyclist in an attempt to steal his bike in the Obasanjo Bridge area of Alagbado. Alert residents intervened, apprehended the suspects, and handed them over to the police.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Ben Hundeyin, stated that the police are actively pursuing other members of the gang.

“On 15/02/24 at about 07:30 hrs, a report was received from a motorcyclist that at about 06:30 hrs, two men, later identified as Ayuba Oyegbele and Ojo Gbolahan, stopped him at Ogo Oluwa, Alagbado, and requested a ride to Obasanjo Bridge,” the PPRO stated.

“However, upon reaching the Obasanjo bridge, Ojo Gbolahan dismounted and pretended to pay the motorcyclist. Instead, he unleashed dry pepper spray into the rider’s eyes while the duo attempted to rob him of his motorcycle.

“Fortunately, passers-by heard the rider’s cries for help and intervened, thwarting the robbery attempt. The suspects were subdued and taken to Alagbado Police Station.

“Investigations revealed that the suspects have a history of robbing motorcyclists,” he added.
