The Presidency has distanced itself from the growing presence of billboards in various cities promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, April 13, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga clarified that neither the President nor the Vice President is behind the campaign materials, many of which feature images of President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, particularly in Abuja and Kano.
“While President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima deeply appreciate the enthusiasm and loyalty of their supporters nationwide, they do not endorse any campaign that contravenes Nigerian law,” Onanuga stated.
He emphasized that the Electoral Act prohibits premature electioneering and political campaigning, warning that such activities could undermine the integrity of the democratic process and provide unfair advantages.

“As law-abiding leaders, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima reject any initiative that subverts the institutions or legal framework guiding our elections,” the statement continued.
Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially releases a timetable for the 2027 general elections, Onanuga affirmed that President Tinubu has not authorized any individual or group to promote his candidacy through any medium — including billboards, print, digital, or broadcast platforms.
“We strongly urge those funding and promoting these premature 2027 campaigns to cease all such activities immediately,” he added.
Onanuga reiterated that the President and Vice President remain fully focused on their mandate to rebuild and transform the nation. Their priorities include economic revitalization, human capital development, infrastructure, social investment, and national security.
“When the time comes and INEC sets the stage for the 2027 elections, President Tinubu will make his intentions known to the Nigerian people,” the statement concluded.
