Twenty-seven lawmakers of the Rivers State Assembly have once again issued threats of impeaching Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
During a briefing after a meeting held in Port Harcourt on Saturday, March 30, the lawmakers emphasized their readiness to remove Fubara from office as a last resort due to his persistent violation of critical provisions of the Constitution.
In their statement, they criticized former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, and others associated with the Former Rivers State PDP Presidential Campaign Council for their criticisms of the FCT Minister and former Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.
The lawmakers expressed disbelief at the support extended by the Secondus group to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Fubara, especially considering their previous opposition during elections. They accused the group of spreading falsehoods about Wike, whose efforts, they claimed, were instrumental in securing victory.
They cautioned against undermining the legislature and the FCT Minister, highlighting the importance of adhering to state laws and the federal Constitution. They urged the governor to facilitate a smooth transition between democratically elected councils and comply with the terms of the Peace Agreement.
The lawmakers cited the absence of an Appropriation Law in Rivers State and accused the governor of disregarding state laws. They emphasized their commitment to upholding their constitutional duties, including the impeachment of the governor if necessary, as no individual is above the law.
Despite facing threats and attacks, the lawmakers vowed to continue serving their constituents diligently and remain focused on their legislative responsibilities. They condemned attempts to tarnish the image of the House and assured the people of Rivers State of their unwavering dedication to good governance.
The statement was signed by twenty-seven lawmakers, including Martin Amaewhule, Dumle Mail, Jack Major, Somiari-Stewart Linda, Franklin Nwabochi, Ofiks, Kabang Christopher, Azeru Okpara, Opuende Isaiah, Tekenari Granville, Adoki Smart, Wami Solomon, Enemi Alabo, Igwe Aforji, Prince Nyeche, Emilia Amadi, Enyinna Sylvanus, Ezekwe Ijeoma, Abbey Peter, Arnold Davis, Barile Nwakoh, Onwuka Obenachi, Arnold Davids, Gerald Oforji, Ngbar Bernard, Emeji Mgbechukwu, John Iderema, Tony-Wiliams Uwuma, and Chimezie Nwankwo.
