Sean “Diddy” Combs is expected to serve about three years in federal prison, with a projected release date of May 8, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The hip-hop mogul was sentenced earlier this month to 50 months in prison on two counts of interstate prostitution, receiving credit for time already served while awaiting trial in the summer of 2024.
Combs was acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking. He has pleaded not guilty and continues to maintain his innocence. The 55-year-old has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024.
While prosecutors had pushed for an 11-year sentence, this marks Combs’ first criminal conviction. In addition to his prison term, the judge imposed a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Combs’ legal team has said they plan to appeal the sentence.
During the eight-week trial, prosecutors accused Combs of using his influence as an entertainment mogul to coerce women into sexual acts with paid sex workers. Among those who testified was Cassie Ventura, his former girlfriend, who spent several days on the witness stand.
Prosecutors also attempted to link Combs to a racketeering enterprise allegedly created to conceal his abusive behavior. However, the jury acquitted him on those charges, convicting him solely of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits crossing state lines for prostitution.
Evidence presented in court included bank records showing payments for flights and accommodations for sex workers, allegedly for so-called “freak-offs” — drug-fueled sexual gatherings.
While Combs’ defense team acknowledged instances of violence toward women, they argued the case reflected domestic abuse, not organized sex trafficking.
