Nine people lost their lives in a road accident along the Kaltungo–Cham Road in the Kaluwa community of Kaltungo Local Government Area, Gombe State.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State, Samson Kaura, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday, December 22, 2025.
According to Kaura, the crash occurred at about 8:33 a.m. and involved a trailer and a Sharon bus. A total of 18 people were involved in the accident, five sustained various injuries, while four others escaped without harm.
He said the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Kaltungo for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Preliminary findings revealed that the crash was caused by loss of control resulting from excessive speed and brake failure.
“The trailer was speeding on a sloping road and lost control, hitting the Sharon bus from behind. The impact caused the bus to somersault,” Kaura explained.
He warned motorists against excessive speed, especially on sloping roads, stressing that drivers must maintain controllable speeds to avoid accidents and prevent loss of lives and property.
The FRSC commander also advised motorists to always check the condition of their vehicles before traveling, particularly during the festive season.
