The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has officially confirmed the tragic death of three medical students who were reported missing after their boat overturned during a leisurely cruise in Calabar on Saturday, June 24.

These medical students, members of the Nigeria Medical Students Association (NIMSA), had gathered from various universities across the country to participate in the annual NiMSA Health Week held in Calabar. Eager to explore the city, the students embarked on a boat cruise at the Marina Resort. Unfortunately, the boat capsized during the outing. While ten students were fortunate enough to be rescued alive, three others were declared missing.

On Monday morning, June 26, local residents discovered the bodies of the deceased medical students floating in the water and promptly alerted the Marine Police. The Commissioner of Police revealed that two males and one female were among the recovered bodies.

In order to ensure proper handling, the bodies will be carefully preserved until the families of the deceased are contacted for the necessary arrangements to claim their loved ones.
