
Troops from Sector 4 of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have apprehended a suspected gunrunner and seized firearms and ammunition in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to intelligence sources shared with security analyst Zagazola Makama, the troops, operating under Operation Golden Peace, set up a snap checkpoint along the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway at Kassa community around 12:40 a.m. on February 3, 2025.
During the operation, the troops intercepted an ash-colored Peugeot 206 with Plateau State registration number BLD 322 ST. Upon spotting the troops, the vehicle’s occupants fled the scene, but after a quick pursuit, the troops apprehended one suspect, identified as 25-year-old Mr. Joseph Davou.
A search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle (serial number 06536), one K2 Daewoo assault rifle (serial number 063991), one AK-47 magazine, one K2 magazine, 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 20 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.
The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation, while efforts continue to locate and arrest other members of the criminal syndicate.
