
Troops of the 17 Brigade stationed in Yantumaki, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, have rescued a 30-year-old woman who was abducted by suspected terrorists during an attack on the community.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 21, 2026, when troops reportedly heard gunshots from the outskirts of the town and quickly moved to the area in response.
Sources said residents informed the soldiers that the attackers had kidnapped a woman identified as Mrs Abida Rufai before fleeing into the surrounding bush.
The troops immediately pursued the suspected terrorists along their escape route and engaged them in a gun battle.
Faced with the troops’ superior firepower, the attackers reportedly abandoned the victim and escaped into the bush.
Mrs Rufai was successfully rescued unharmed and reunited with her family, sparking relief and celebration among residents of the community.
Military authorities stated that troops have sustained aggressive patrols and clearance operations in the area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of their safety.
