Two Teenagers Drown in Kano Stream While Swimming

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the deaths of two children who drowned while swimming in a stream at Hayin Yawa Gada, Tudun Wada Local Government Area, on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The agency also reported the discovery of a man’s body in a well at Jaba Masaka Shago Tara the following morning.

In a statement, the Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, said the Emergency Response Unit of Tudun Wada received an urgent call around 2:00 pm on October 9 from CG Hisba about the drowning incident.

Upon arrival, responders found two boys, identified as Habu Sani and Haruna Isah, both approximately 15 years old, who had entered a stream running beneath a major road bridge. The boys drowned while swimming locally.

The rescue team retrieved the boys unconscious, but they were later pronounced dead. Their bodies were handed over to Inspector Usaini Iliya of the Tudun Wada Police Division.

Abdullahi added that the second incident occurred on October 10 at about 8:15 am, when the central control room received a report from P & G Kwalli Police Division about a body found in a well at Jaba Masaka Shago Tara.

Fire Service personnel from the state headquarters were dispatched to the scene, successfully recovered the body, and handed it over to the area’s Ward Head, Ado Idris.
