Vigilante injured as gunmen abduct Delta LG chairman

The Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area in Delta State, Chief Bright Abeke, has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen.

He was reportedly abducted on Friday night at about 7:25 p.m. from a hotel located along Owumi Road in Sapele.

Sources said the assailants arrived in a Range Rover SUV and fired shots into the air to disperse bystanders before carrying out the abduction.

During the incident, a member of a local vigilante group, identified as Ufuoma, was shot and subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

As of the time of reporting, the whereabouts of the council chairman remain unknown.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are underway to rescue the victim.

“Confirmed. The Commissioner of Police has directed the command’s special anti-kidnapping unit to deploy all necessary resources to ensure the victim is rescued unharmed and the perpetrators are apprehended,” he said in a WhatsApp message.
