A 29-year-old woman, Chisom Okonkwo, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Enugu for allegedly making false accusations against her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, claiming he sexually assaulted their two daughters.
According to a report by Leadership, the incident occurred during a marital dispute in August 2024 at Emene, Enugu.
Court documents reveal that Chisom publicly alleged that her husband defiled their 2-year-old and 5-year-old daughters. Police investigations, however, stated that the accusations tarnished Ozioma’s reputation and subjected him to public ridicule.
Following her report, Ozioma was arrested on October 25, 2025, but was later released after medical examinations on the children showed no evidence of sexual abuse.
The police further accused Chisom of providing false information to officers at the State Intelligence Department.
She is being prosecuted under Sections 325 and 154 of the Criminal Code of Enugu State, which address defamationand false information to law enforcement, respectively.
As of now, the court has not disclosed details regarding her plea or any bail conditions.
The case has generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians urging thorough and balanced investigations in cases involving children—to ensure that false accusations are prevented and genuine abuse cases are not overlooked.
