Wike vs Fubara: Rivers Finance Commissioner, Kamalu resigns

Isaac Kamalu has tendered his resignation as the Commissioner of Finance for Rivers State following his redeployment to the Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment Ministry by Governor Simi Fubara. Kamalu, who previously served as the commissioner for Budget and Economics under former Governor Nyesom Wike and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, made this announcement on Tuesday in a letter addressed to Governor Fubura and the Secretary to the Government, Tammy Danagogo.

In the letter, Kamalu expressed his disagreement with Governor Fubara’s handling of the state’s internally generated revenue, alleging falsehoods. He stated, “In view of the above, I find it difficult to accept the redeployment; I do not accept it. I reject it and convey my immediate resignation as Commissioner and Member of the River State Executive Council with effect from the date of this letter.”

This resignation comes shortly after Zacchaeus Adangor, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, also resigned, citing similar issues.

These developments follow months of political tension between Governor Fubara and Wike, which were reportedly resolved through a peace pact brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Notably, Kamalu had previously resigned as commissioner during the height of the crisis but was reinstated in accordance with the terms of the peace agreement.
