A farmer, identified only as Jesuyon, has tragically lost his wife, Abosede, in a canoe accident on the Erekiti River in Lagos State.
According to journalist Deji Rambo, Jesuyon and his 25-year-old wife set out from their home on Sunday, March 30, 2025, to work on their farm. To reach their destination, the couple boarded a canoe that crossed the Erekiti River.
After completing their work on the farm, Jesuyon, his wife, and her 17-year-old sister, Mary, took another canoe to return home. However, the canoe capsized during the journey.
While in the water, Jesuyon managed to swim to safety and rescue his sister-in-law, but his wife tragically drowned, a source told the reporter.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Sunday, April 6. He stated that search efforts were still underway to recover Abosede’s body.
“Based on the report, teams of Marine policemen and local divers have been mobilized for a search and rescue operation. Efforts are ongoing to recover the missing body. The investigation is in progress,” CSP Hundeyin said.
