Seventeen members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The defections were formally announced during plenary on Tuesday, May 5.

This development follows a major political shift on May 3, when Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), also moved from the ADC to the NDC—adding a new dimension to the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

During the same plenary, Leke Abejide was announced to have defected from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers who joined the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike.

Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.
