England captain Harry Kane has admitted that he is in contention for the 2026 Ballon d’Or award.
Kane made the remark during an interview with Owen Hargreaves, which is set to air on HBO Max. The Bayern Munich striker said the prestigious award often sparks heated debates among football fans and experts over which player deserves to win.
Kane has been named among the leading contenders for the prize alongside Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Barcelona’s Rodri.
However, the England captain acknowledged that the eventual winner would be determined by the votes.
“The thing with football opinions – there are so many opinions, so many arguments for different players, and people love this player because ‘he’s fast’ and ‘he’s got great IQ’ and ‘his finishing is great’,” Kane said.
He added: “I think that is what makes football special, all those debates, and the Ballon d’Or is definitely one of them. I’m happy that I am in contention, so we will have to wait and see.”
