Ahead of the 2027 general elections, lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has said that no presidential candidate from the South stands a chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu — except former President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Adeyanju argued that a coalition ticket featuring Goodluck Jonathan and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso would be the strongest option to challenge Tinubu in 2027.
He also suggested an alternative strategy: pairing a younger Northerner with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, noting that such a combination could appeal to a broader voter base, especially among the youth.
Adeyanju dismissed the idea of Atiku Abubakar leading the opposition again, saying the former vice president lacks the appeal needed to energize younger voters and could cost the coalition a significant portion of their support.
