80% of marriages fail because of how men are raised – Nigerian lawyer says

Nigerian lawyer and politician Ilavbare Goldfish Rahmatulai has attributed the failure of most marriages to the way men are raised.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Rahmatulai said her conclusion was based on her experience counselling couples in at least 100 marriages over the past three years.

While acknowledging that some women contribute significantly to marital problems, she estimated that about 20 per cent of severe marital damage was caused by what she described as “naturally bad women”. She attributed the remaining 80 per cent to men she said were irresponsible, undisciplined and inadequately prepared for the demands of commitment and accountability.

“This isn’t for anger or insults but for sober reflection,” she wrote.

Reflecting on the lessons from her counselling experience and personal life, Rahmatulai stressed the need for parents, particularly those raising boys, to do more to prepare their sons for responsible adulthood and marriage.

“GEN X, let us do better with our children, especially our sons. There is still time. Good morning,” she added.
