
Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 70-year-old Adamu Yakubu for allegedly killing his sister over a land dispute in Dutse Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, revealed in a statement on Friday, July 4, that the suspect struck his sister, Hannatu Hashimu, with a stick during a heated argument over the division of inherited family land.
Hannatu was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by the attending medical doctor.
“The Jigawa State Police Command is currently investigating a case of culpable homicide that occurred on July 1, 2025, at around 3:30 pm in Galadanchi village, Dutse LGA, involving a 70-year-old man who allegedly killed his sister over a land dispute,” the statement read.
“Preliminary investigations show that the suspect, Adamu Yakubu, age 70, of Galadanchi village, allegedly struck his sister, Hannatu Hashimu, age 45, with a stick during a heated argument about the family inheritance land.
“The disagreement, which began as a verbal dispute, escalated into physical violence when the suspect attacked the victim with a stick.
“The deceased left the house in distress and fainted upon entering the matrimonial home. She was taken to Dutse General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
“The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations. The stick used in the assault was recovered and is held as evidence.
“The Command condemns the incident strongly and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring justice is served.
“The public is urged to resolve family and land disputes peacefully and through legal channels.
“Upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspect will be charged in court.
“The Jigawa State Police Command extends condolences to the family of the deceased and assures the public that justice will be pursued.”
