2027: Peter Obi declares presidential bid, rules out vice-presidency

Peter Obi has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election as a presidential candidate, ruling out any possibility of accepting a vice-presidential slot.

Speaking at a campaign event for African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council (AMAC) elections, held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Obi emphasized that his political ambition is focused on leading the ticket. He told party supporters that his participation in the AMAC election campaign is part of a broader national strategy. He urged residents and party members to support the ADC candidate, noting that success at the local level would strengthen his wider political project.

Obi stressed that his future electoral involvement would be in a leading role, not as a supporting figure.

“Support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” he said.

His declaration comes amid growing calls from his supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, urging the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s presidential flagbearer for 2027.

The ADC, however, also has other prominent figures with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, setting the stage for a competitive race ahead of the elections.
