Coalition: Wike tells Amaechi, “You won’t return to power”

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has criticized former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi for joining the opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

On Thursday, July 3, Amaechi, a former APC presidential candidate, announced his intention to run again for the presidency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, adding that he would be satisfied with a single four-year term if elected.

Amaechi also claimed that the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari outperformed the current government and accused Tinubu of mismanaging the economy.

In response, Wike challenged Amaechi and his allies in the ADC coalition to “show their scorecards,” accusing Amaechi of bitterness over losing power and plotting a return.

“Because you have left office, you are angry. You say Nigerians are angry. You want to come back to power—but you won’t. You never made angry Nigerians happy, yet Tinubu has only been in office six months and you’re already claiming Nigerians are angry,” Wike said, boasting that he defeated Amaechi’s party in the last two presidential elections in Rivers State.

“They say the coalition has started… When will you stop deceiving Nigerians? Someone has been in office for six months, and you’ve already launched a coalition. But you had the chance to be Minister of Transportation for eight years. What did you achieve?” he added.
