Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his opinion that Peter Obi cannot win the 2023 presidential election. He believes that the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate does not have the necessary support, calling him a Nollywood actor.
According to El-Rufai, the real competition is between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He dismissed the notion of Obi’s popularity, saying that he’ll only receive votes in the South-East and some parts of the South-South.
He also stated that votes in just one Local Government Area in Kaduna can cancel out votes in Anambra.
In an interview with TVC, El-Rufai shared that Obi’s current poll numbers are low, with only 1% in Sokoto, 2% in Katsina, and 5% in Kano. He commented that doing well in Anambra State does not equate to success in other states, like Kano with 4 million votes.
The governor also mentioned that Obi is not polling well in the South-West, and only has a small presence in Christian enclaves in the North.
El-Rufai emphasized that ethnicity and religious bigotry will not play a significant role in the election, which he sees as an APC versus PDP competition due to their large footprint. Peter Obi will be competing with Bola Tinubu of the APC, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP on February 25th.
