In a significant political shift, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a major change in the state’s political dynamics.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday evening after a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, as reported by Arise TV. Governor Oborevwori’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders and was made in the interest of the state’s long-term progress.
Oborevwori, who secured victory in the 2023 gubernatorial election on the PDP platform, was warmly received by senior APC leaders, marking a significant boost for the ruling party. Political analysts suggest that this move could be a strategic repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with potential political repercussions throughout the South-South region.
