The late Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, December 27, at the age of 65. His demise occurred in an Abuja hospital after a brief illness.

Ghali Na’Abba, who served as the second Speaker of the House of Representatives during the current 4th Republic, was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives from Kano State in 1999. He assumed the position of Speaker a few months after the inauguration of the House, following the resignation of the then Speaker, Salisu Buhari, from the same Kano State, due to a certificate forgery scandal.

Born into the family of Umar Na’Abba, a businessman in Tudun Wada, Kano City, on September 27, 1958, the late speaker earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1979. His educational journey included attending Jakarta Primary School, Kano, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1969. He furthered his studies at Rumfa College, Kano, for his West African School Certificate, and later pursued a postgraduate program on Leadership and Good Governance at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, in the United States in 2004.

May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
