Distressed residents of Tunburku village in Kidandan ward, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, took to the streets on Tuesday, January 16, to protest the escalating menace of banditry and the worsening security challenges in their region.
Malam Yusuf Jibrin, the leader of the demonstrators, expressed deep concern about the disruptive activities of bandits and other criminal elements that have severely impacted agriculture and various economic endeavors in the area.
The protesters highlighted the bandits’ audacious acts of killing and abducting individuals indiscriminately, emphasizing that farming is only allowed to resume after hefty ransoms are paid. According to a report by Daily Trust, Amiru Abubakar, a resident of Tunburku, revealed that many in the village are struggling to find enough food, underscoring the urgent need for royal intervention.
In response to the grievances, Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, acknowledged that the village head of Kidandan has been consistently reporting the distressing situation to the council. Bamali further expressed the collective concern, stating, “In fact, the situation in Giwa local government area always gives us sleepless nights.”
