Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a suspected robber, Abubakar Sadiq, who allegedly killed an Okada rider and stole his motorcycle in Bosso Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrest on Monday, January 6, 2024. Sadiq was detained alongside two accomplices, Ibrahim Garba and Bala Usman, in connection with the charges of culpable homicide and armed robbery.
According to the police, Sadiq hired the motorcycle from Berger Junction in Bosso, intending to travel to Maitumbi. However, he deceived the rider into taking a secluded path, where he struck the victim on the head with a stone, causing his death.
After the murder, Sadiq took the stolen motorcycle to Garba, who sold it for N310,000 to Usman.
The police received a distress call on January 2, 2025, reporting the discovery of a lifeless body along the Pyata-Maitumbi Bye-Pass in Bosso. The victim, identified as Abdulrahman Isah, 20, from Pyata village, was found in a pool of blood, and his motorcycle was missing.
Following investigations, Sadiq was arrested and confessed to the crime. He revealed that after attacking the rider, he took the motorcycle to Beji Market and handed it over to Garba, who sold it to Usman. The police later arrested Garba and Usman, recovering N300,000 from the sale.
The suspects are currently undergoing preliminary investigation at the Divisional Police Headquarters and will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
